Discovery
Requires Pro
With Discovery, Notory captures devices automatically instead of you adding them by hand one by one. There are two complementary approaches:
- Agentless discovery (network scan) — Notory sweeps an IP range for reachable hosts (TCP probes, reverse DNS, optionally SNMP). You can selectively import discovered devices into your inventory. No software rollout required, but with limited detail (IP, open ports, OS guess).
- Inventory agent — a lightweight script you install on endpoints. It reports the operating system and installed software to Notory on its own and keeps the asset up to date. More detail, but requires installation on each device.
Both approaches belong to the Discovery feature and are available from the Pro
plan onward. On lower plans, the section is hidden and the API responds with 403
(“Network discovery is not included in your license”).
